Overview
Top 5 international pharmaceutical company had multiple locations in high cost areas, each with its own back-office functions and staff. They needed a more cost effective and efficient model, streamlining shared services and reducing overall costs. The shared service center needed the capability to expand, have a lower cost profile, and enable the functions to adequately work together as well as support the rest of the organization while not being physically located near operations locations.

Led a team of 11 consulting resources to design the shared service center organization, identify which functions and FTEs would migrate to the new location, develop workflows and business processes, develop business case, and execute change management services and timeline and plan for the transformation. The transformation effort impacted 200+ FTEs across Finance and Accounting, IT and Marketing, with a planned creation of 600 jobs locally. In addition to developing the organization design, strategy, and plan, we managed the transition of FTEs to the new shared services center, resulting in $30M labor arbitrage and tax savings.
Results
Within 11 months client had a new shared services center stood up and operational, inclusive of labor arbitrage savings of $30M, migration of 200+ FTEs into the new center, and had created 600 jobs locally because of the new center and location.
